After moving to Hoboken, I was looking to become more involved in the community and came across TRUE Mentors in my search. After meeting with James and learning more about the organization I was impressed by their mission and commitment to serving the children of Hoboken. I had some experience writing grants and saw that there was a need for this at TRUE Mentors. I joined the grant writing team in 2013.
A community of people focused on making a difference.
When I first started volunteering at TRUE Mentors, I was amazed by the commitment of the volunteers. I worked with a group of volunteers on the scavenger hunt and the amount of coordination and organization that went into running a successful event was truly amazing. In order to run effectively, TRUE Mentors depends on volunteers. The organization has attracted a group of wonderful people that are really committed to the mission and give their time to ensure the programs run well.
Throughout my time I have learned so much from the people I’ve worked with, developed new friendships and the experience has been overwhelmingly rewarding.
Being involved in your local community is a great way to give back and meet new people. TRUE Mentors has a variety of opportunities to contribute and we are always looking for new volunteers with an assortment of skills. My favorite experience serving on the board so far has been is working with a group of dedicated individuals that are so committed to improving this organization. It can be a lot of work at times, but seeing the progress of the students and watching the organization grow makes it all worth it.
