Enrichment Clubs

TRUE Mentors offers free weekly enrichment program on Tuesday evenings at the Boys & Girls Club of Hoboken (123 Jefferson Street) from 6 – 8 p.m. during the school year. Our three-week long clubs change monthly, with every month offering two different club options for children. Clubs are offered on a variety of different enrichment topics including art, science, cooking, and more!  Between clubs we take free field trips to local businesses for youth to explore local businesses, different career options, and community resources.

The classes are open to all children between the ages of 7 – 13, and they create an opportunity for children to interact with other children and the volunteers. An example class structure is below.

  • 6:00 – 6:25   Welcome & snack
  • 6:25 – 7:00    Character & Team-building activity
  • 7:00 – 8:00    Clubs meet in small groups

For Parents

All children ages 7-13 are welcome to attend our free enrichment clubs. Please fill out the Program Permission Slip as well as the Behavior Management Plan and bring them with you to the first class your child attends.

Meet the Volunteers

Kayla Darcey – Lead Mentor (6th-8th)

Kayla moved to Hoboken earlier this year and wanted to get involved with a volunteer opportunity. “TRUE Mentors stood out as an organization, and I wanted to get involved because of their commitment and value of creating important relationships with the youth in Hoboken.” Kayla started volunteering with TRUE Mentor’s in April of 2016, earning herself the TM ‘Rookie of the Year’ Award at our annual volunteer recognition party. Kayla describes Tuesday’s as her “favorite day of the week”  commenting that the “experience has been rewarding and fun”!

Chelsey Clevenger – Relationship Manager

Chelsey moved to Hoboken in 2017 from Brooklyn, where she served as an AmeriCorps VISTA in the Mayor’s Office of New York City, working in Youth Development. She is currently a Volunteer Organizer with Reading Partners, a national literacy non-profit. There, she manages volunteers and interns in the Bronx, Manhattan, and Brooklyn whom provide one on one tutoring sessions for elementary students. She is thrilled to have the opportunity to jumpstart long lasting relationships with mentors and mentees. In her role as Relationship Manager, Chelsey helps facilitates our one-to-one matches within our Club program, oversees the new volunteer on-boarding process and assists helps foster TRUE relationships between our mentors and mentees.
