Volunteer in the Spotlight – Paul Uwandi

Meet Peter Uwandi

Peter started volunteering in September at our weekly group mentoring program and has since stepped into a leadership role in the organization, leading Club activities each week for our 6th-8th grade students. “Since I joined TM I’ve really rekindled my passion to guide and mentor the youth. Growing up my mother had a daycare so I was always around kids and I saw the efforts that were made to guide them into becoming responsible and morally grounded young adult. Her love for kids rubbed off on me so to speak.” Peter is an incredible asset to the Enrichment Club team. He has a wonderful rapport with our mentees and always has a smile on his face. In just 5 short months, Peter has build TRUE relationships with our mentees that will have an impact for years to come. We have all enjoyed getting to know Peter on a personal level, too. Peter’s favorite book is the Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle and it really sums up his outlook on life. “This book really emphasizes on staying positive and focusing on the present moment rather than focusing on the past or future. My favorite quote is “Walk By Faith Not By Sight.” This profound quote reminds me to keep faith in your process and to push forward because In the end it will always workout for the betterment of ones self.” We look forward to working with Peter this school year!

“My favorite moment at true mentors is when I hear of an issue that any of the kids are dealing with and I am able to relate and dialogue with them in order to solve that issue or to help them to better deal with it. I wish other people knew of the potential impact one can make on a child’s life and the fact that there are dedicated individuals who care and are passionate for the development of the kids. A child’s life can be positively altered by you.
